JB, Andrew and Joe came by to remove the two trees that I requested. They came early, worked professionally and efficiently. We cracked some jokes, very genuine and friendly guys. Their prices for the quality and speed of work they provided is amazing. Unfortunately, I can't give anything higher than 5 stars, otherwise I would. 100/10, I'm definitely hiring these guys again if I have any other trees and stumps to remove.

Angelo Goncalves

This is an amazing company and anyone needing trees taken down should absolutely call them. Joe was super knowledgeable when he came to assess the trees and let me know exactly what should be done with timelines. Him and his crew took down a very old rotted tree and limbed another one. They worked safely and efficiently and the whole team was friendly. I will be calling them again in the future!

Darcy Wight

I would highly recommend Joe and his team @ CBL Tree service. The work they did at my property was done quickly, safely and they too the time to ensure my yard we cleaned well before they left. All that and the price is very competitive. Will recommend him and his team to anyone and will definitely use CBL for tree services again in the future.

  • What is the Emerald Ash Borer?

The emerald ash borer is an invasive species of beetle that is decimating the ash tree population in Ontario. It is a green beetle about the size of a nickel which lays its eggs in the top of ash trees. The larvae, which look like small grubs, chew their way around the cambium layer of the tree, just inside the bark. This cuts off the circulation of the sap flowing up the tree, and eventually kills the ash tree. Signs of infestation are small ‘D’ shaped exit holes that the larvae make when they come out of the bark, often accompanied by light coloured patches on the bark which are the result of small animals scraping at the bark in attempts to feed on the larvae. Ash trees can be treated with Treeazin, a natural pesticide that limits the beetles effect on the trees, if the treatment is applied before the beetle infests a tree. Unfortunately, once the beetle has established itself in a tree, very few trees are able to survive the infestation. If you see signs of a heavy infestation in your ash tree, your best option is to remove the tree before it dies completely. Once the ash trees completely die from emerald ash borer infestation, they are quite brittle, and in many cases are more hazardous to remove. It is always more safe and more affordable to remove the tree sooner than later, as the tree becomes more dangerous to remove the longer it stands dead.

  • What is Oak Wilt?

Oak Wilt is a vascular disease that effects most oak trees, and has been found in Ontario as of 2023.

It is usually deadly for oak trees. To avoid spreading the disease, oak trees should only be pruned in the winter months, when the airborne spores of oak wilt will not infect your trees. For a full picture of oak wilt and the hazard it poses for your trees, you can refer to Canada's Invasive Species Centre here:

    https://www.invasivespeciescentre.ca/invasive-species/meet-the-species/invasive-pathogens/oak-wilt/

  • Do I need a permit to remove my tree?

It is best to check your local bylaws for their tree removal permit bylaw. In our main areas of service, the only city that requires tree removal permits is the City of Peterborough. In Peterborough, a tree removal permit is requirred to remove any tree measuring 7.5 cm diamter at 1.37m above grade. CBL TREE is a licensed tree service provider with the city of Peterborough, and handles the complete tree permit process, which typically only takes 1 week, from start of process to issuance of permit. The cost for a tree permit for the removal of up to 5 trees is $65.00.

ABOUT

Great work to Joe and his team. They are very thorough, professional, and did a good job in cleaning up the job site after pruning some backyard trees. Neighbor and I had both had our trees pruned/removed at the same time, and we were both commenting how awesome these guys are. I don't usually leave reviews (and Joe didn't even ask), but felt like these guys deserve one.
